This first part of the BS EN 60730 series outlines the general requirements for automatic electrical controls relating to equipment for household and similar use.

Why should you use this standard? 

This international standard gives guidelines on automatic electrical controls for equipment that may use electricity, gas, oil, solid fuel, solar thermal energy or any combination thereof. 

It applies to household and similar use controls and covers areas that include safety, operating values, operating times, operating sequences plus the testing of automatic electrical control devices. It also specifies controls for heating, air conditioning and similar applications. 

BS EN 60730 also covers equipment that may be used by the public such as that intended to be used in shops, offices, hospitals, farms and commercial and industrial applications. 

Part 1 is to be used in conjunction with the appropriate part 2, for a particular type of control.
